Here's a question for mainly the middle-aged guys i guess. Have you or do you experience issues in "getting it up"? Since hitting my mid-fifties I have noticed that it is no longer possible to get instant erections just by looking/fantasising but a helping hand is needed to gently rub those balls and penis. However what happens when even this only produces a semi hard-on? My saviour was Cialis and Viagra. The advantage of the former is that it lasts for up to 36 hours as opposed to just four hours. I have tried both but found that Viagra causes grogginess and headaches whereas Cialis is super good and lets me get hard whenever the need arises (which either through sex or masturbation) is probably five times a week (although with Covid and shut-down the frequency has increased dramatically). No more fear either that i might go soft part way through intercourse. The question is for those who have used these products which one would you recommend? I have mentioned the two most well known ones but there are others such as vacuum pumps, implants and herbal medicines etc etc

I’ve used both, and Cialis is by far my preferred choice. Like you, I found headaches and grogginess to be a common effect from Sildenafil. Also had some pretty severe nasal congestion with it. Cialis, on the other hand, has only caused some minor backaches on the rare occasions when I take a larger dose than usual. I typically take 2.5mg per day, and am good to go anytime I need (or want) to be.

Viagra also occasionally let me down in the stamina department, allowing me to lose some firmness midway through. Cialis, on the other hand, keeps things firm pretty much as long as needed.

Like yourself i also take Cialis 2.5mg daily and am satisfied with that. I did try doubling it to 5mg but no noticeable difference. Science is wonderful!!

I will occasionally take 5mg on a weekend night when there’s a good chance that things are going to get extra steamy in the bedroom. I’ve found that it does have a greater short term effect but it comes at the expense of lower back pain. 2.5mg works quite well for me.

The wife much prefers the daily Cialis over Viagra. It has a better effect on my erection, it doesn’t affect sensitivity the way Viagra did, and we can be much more spontaneous. Nothing is quite as frustrating as taking a $10 pill (that takes from 30 minutes to two hours to kick in) with every intention of getting some use of it and then life tossing you a curveball. With Viagra it felt as if you needed to make an appointment.

I'm lucky as living in the UK with a long standing medical condition i qualify for an exemption certificate. This means that all my prescribed medicines are free

It happens to every guy at some point for a whole lidt of reasons. But it's not a nightmare if you're with an understanding woman and you not let your ego become bruised and want to be babied.

I have zero problems getting hard. Sometimes issues staying hard. Particularly if switching positions etc where there is no stimulation.
Then have to get it worked up again.

When I had my cancer infected prostate removed, I thought that the loss of an erection would not be a problem, however, after over forty years of erections it did turn out to be a problem. I have this great feeling of not being able to satisfy my partner, even though we have worked out other methods to replace the penetration aspect. plus masturbation is less functional because of the flacidness.
During the operation, in spite of the cancer being contained, there were some nerve bundles that got damaged, causing the lack of erections. I was told that they would actively return in five to seven years but .............. no way hose'y. Erections are triggered by the brain but it must be able to communicate with the penis and it's valves to afford an erection. Doesn't happen when the "wires" have been taken down along the way!
Cialis and Viagra only help in increasing blood flow. It is the valves at the base that traps this blood that causes the erections. I tried both but only got hyperactive, breathing problems and the head aches, from the increased bloodpreasure.

My recommendation is if you can in any way save these nerve bundles, do so at any cost because later you will relise that they are important.

My only hope is for a penis replacement surgery and at my age (70+yrs), they won't even seriously discuss having inplants .....

I am 55 and am incredibly fortunate to still get erections like I did when I was a teenager. I don’t know how much longer that will be the case but I am very thankful right now.

I am 46 and whilst I can still get super hard erections, in the morning and whilst masturbating the strength and quality during sex isn’t as good as it could be. It eventually gets there but it would be nice if it was rock hard from the start. I guess for me it’s all psychological and very much down to infrequent marital sex and performance anxiety because the few opportunities we have I feel have to be perfect.
I find cock rings help.
i also rarely get unwanted erections anymore but in my 20s it was an embarrassing problem....now I would welcome it. If I am up early though I can get my morning wood while driving to see customers etc.....which is nice.

Are there any exercises to improve the action of whatever prevents the blood leaving the penis?

At 60 I do notice that getting an erection usually isn't a problem, but occasionally maintaining one can be a problem. With my wife going through menopause she isn't as wet as she was so we've added lubricant which helps immensely. I've not tried chemical help (yet) and do appreciate this thread and other men's comment.

I'm in my early 40s and have no problem at all. Also I don't know what is but since having my Covid shots it's if it has been rejuvenated. Been getting morning wood for the first time in ages.

At 58 I am starting to have issues with ED. Recently I have had some health problems that affect circulation, but part of my problem is my wife is loosing her interest in sex so she tends to neglect the foreplay part and my cock is no longer a good little soldier that stands at attention on command. I think it is time for me to have that awkward conversation with me GP. Thankfully masturbation is still very satisfying and we now live in world with abundant visual stimulation (including many of the ladies here on CP). 😁

I am the same age as yourself and have had that embarrassing conversation with the doctor. It wasn't as bad as i thought it would be but definitely worth it. I was given viagra to start with (very good stuff and worked well - but side effects not too good), am now taking Cialis daily

Well, I finally had a chance to chat with the doctor (I only go to see him once a year to renew my prescriptions). Tonight might be the night I give the little blue pill a test. I am hoping my wife gets to revisit some of positions I had to take out of the play book.

I'm in my mid 50s now and started getting ED about 20 yrs ago and was diagnosed with low testosterone, which also caused low sex drive. My testosterone levels were well below the normal range for my age. Tried testosterone cream called Androgel, which helped a little, but was worried about accidentally getting it on my wife during sex. Switched to Viagra/sildenafil and have been using it successfully since. I take a 100 mg pill and split it in half. Causes a bit of nasal congestion and slight headache, but it's not as bad now as it was at first. It doesn't help with the low testosterone/low sex drive problem though. For that I take natural testosterone-boosting supplements (NOT steroids) that stimulates the body's natural testosterone production. The T-boosters helped increase my testosterone levels to the lower end of the normal range, but I still need to use sildenafil for the rare times my wife and I have sex.

Never had any problems till into my sixties....asked my doctor if my poor sex life might be due to a new medication I was taking. She said probably not and suggested I try Cialis. I take a small amount every second day and it works great, I'm always ready for my wife...wish she wanted more!

57 years old here. I see my wife naked or she hints at saying yes to sex and I am hard as a rock. He doesn’t stand straight up the way used to but he still comes to attention

I have tried Cialis and worked really well in most days but had a couple of episodes when it did not work at all. I recently started a hormonal replacement therapy, initially using testosterone pellets and now injections and It is working great for me since reaction time to get an erection has significantly improved and keep it hard is also not a problem.

I haven’t had erectile dysfunction per say despite a very low Testosterone level that has required injections every two weeks for the last 11 years or so.

Now having a whisky dick…..well that’s an entirely different story.

Wow, after reading this thread I feel very fortunate my body still works as well as it does. 69 years so far and I get morning wood and random erections at times. Can maintain a rock hard penis during sex just as I did in my twenties. See a beautiful woman getting ready to have sex with me and I stand at attention in anticipation. I'm even getting erect as I write about this. I'm quite athletic competing in endurance sport, cycling and triathlons. Recent Testosterone tests have shown my levels as high as a 40 something male. So I'm good to go there. But, my prostate is beginning to get larger. Doc prescribed Tadalafil (Cialis) to combat that. Nice side effect is continuing to get those wonderful erections. Had nice ones before. Got nice ones now. It's been quite a bonus if you ask me.
